Nevada water corrodes the inexpensive brass fittings used in the piping of many homes

See our video above explaining the Kitec plumbing problem being experienced all over Las Vegas.

The main problem with both Kitec or Rehau plumbing systems is the failure of the fittings (the connectors between pipes), due to corrosion in most cases.  The water in the Las Vegas area has a high pH balance which makes it highly alkaline, meaning that it is very aggressive on inexpensive brass fittings that have a high percentage of zinc (which most Kitec and Rehau installations have).  Because of the aggressive nature of our water, it leeches the zinc out of the fitting causing a white corrosive looking sediment on the inside and outside of the fittings.

The picture to the right is a Kitec fitting removed from near a bathtub that was about 5 years old but used less than 3 times.  The scale buildup is major, yet indicative of what’s happening on Kitec and Rehau fittings around the city.  Ultimately these fittings eventually fail, leak and result in very expensive home repairs.

Additional Problems

Because Nevada water is so aggressive, standard plumbing fixtures are not designed to stand up to it.  Other components of a Kitec or Rehau plumbing system, such as the shut-off valves under the sinks and toilets, can be badly corroded and in need of replacement. This replacement should be done immediately to prevent water damage to your home.
